I have been interested in buying a home for a couple of years now, and I finally decided to make the move and contact a real estate agent in January to begin looking at homes. I was interested in buying in the Capitol Hill or Whittier/Five Points neighborhood, and I saw in his reviews that he was very knowledgeable about these areas. I was highly impressed with his knowledge and I couldn't have been any happier with my experience with Dave. He was extremely friendly, a great negotiator, always available to answer my questions (even if I called him 5 times in the same day asking him to explain something) and he knew so much about the neighborhood and future plans for the neighborhood that I didn't know about. As a first time home buyer, I was very nervous about the process, but he made me feel extremely comfortable and explained everything in great detail. He asked me a lot of questions about what I was looking for in a home, and he seemed to genuinely care about finding something that was the right fit for me. He was very honest about his opinion on homes I looked at, which I really appreciated. All of the tips he gave me, such as creating a "needs and wants" list, were also really helpful in narrowing down what I was looking for.
After looking at a couple of houses and feeling discouraged that there wasn’t anything on the market that met my criteria, he encouraged me to go check out a house that he thought I would like. I had seen the house on zillow but had never been interested in looking at it. All I have to say is sometimes you can’t judge a house by the photos online, because I agreed to look at it and the minute I walked inside I knew that it was my dream home. I ended up putting an offer on the home a couple of days later.
Everything went very smoothly, and with his help I met all of my important deadlines under the contract. He put me in touch with an amazing lender who was also extremely helpful throughout the process, and he had a bunch of contacts for plumbers and inspection companies which made that part easy for me. Unfortunately some rather unexpected things happened on the seller’s end and they informed us that they wanted to put the home back on the market for more money after we were already under contract, which is something that none of us had even heard of happening before. I ended up getting into a two week battle with the other party, which was highly stressful and appeared to have no resolution. During that time Dave did a great job of being the mediator between both parties and keeping me calm enough to avoid doing anything drastic that could potentially hurt my case. I know that it must have been equally as stressful for him, so I must commend him for his moral support during that time and for his ability to remain so professional throughout the experience toward both me (who was a frantic mess) and the other party. In the end we were able to work something out with the seller and I avoided spending tons of money going to court and potentially losing the house if it went into foreclosure. Both parties were happy, and Dave was responsible for things working out in the end. I really owe it to him that I am in my dream home today!
I highly recommend Dave to anyone looking to purchase their first home, and I will be sure to recommend him to any of my friends interested in buying in the future. He also knows a lot about older Victorian homes and renovations, and I know that I will always be able to contact him if I have any questions or need a good contractor.
